OTTO BAUMBERGER (1889-1961) PKZ / PHOTO CONCOURS. 1923.
50 3/4x35 5/8 inches. Wolfsberg, Zurich.
Condition A: creases in image.
Baumberger was one of the most prolific Swiss poster designers and he regularly collaborated with PKZ, designing at least eight posters for the firm. In addition to his artwork, he was also a close adviser to Emile Haller, the PKZ advertising director. Together, in 1923, they created a photo contest, organized as a true multi-media campaign. To launch the event, Baumberger devised this character, a dapper photographer, who literally a personifies the PKZ brand, and used the figure in animated films and press ads as well. The promotion was a breakthrough in modern publicity, and successfully pointed the way to multi-media promotions as being a successful advertising tool. French version. Baumberger 98 (var).
