Swiss artist Otto Ernst apprenticed as a graphic designer, and studied in Florence and in Paris; in 1910 he became a student of Eugène Grasset at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. The influence of Ernst's European travels is apparent in many of his posters advertising Swiss winter sports, resorts and Italian summer destinations - vacillating between painterly impressionism, elegant Art Deco, and saturated, colorful stylizations.
