After their return to America in the early 1880s, Bacher and Duveneck were influential art instructors, helping to propel the etching revival in the United States and disseminating the lessons they had learned in Venice working closely with Whistler (Bacher in Cleveland during the 1880s and Duveneck in Cincinnati during the 1890s and early 1900s).
