Although he was primarily a painter, Naegele designed a wide variety of posters in the years before the First World War. Most of them were for high quality consumer goods or events, like car races and benefits. He also designed a handful of posters advertising breweries. In this instance, as with many other artists advertising similar products, Naegele depicts a scene from previous centuries, as if to instill in the viewer the age of the brewery. The image is in many ways humorous and even enviable, as a man is putting his pipe aside to have a lovely woman serve him from an enormous tankard! DFP III 2327, Wember 619, Litfass 169.
