OTTO MORACH (1887-1973) BREMGARTEN - DIETIKON - BAHN. 1928.
50 1/4x35 3/4 inches, 127 1/2x90 3/4 cm. Wolfsberg, Zurich.
Condition B: replaced loss in lower right corner; repaired tears and creases in margins, some into image; small abrasions at edges.
Morach studied both mathematics and painting, spent time in Berlin, Munich, Paris and Dresden, was a member of many different avant-garde artistic movements, and used his talents to create such diverse artistic items as stained glass and puppets. His few posters illustrate his strong personal style. This poster for the local railway to the medieval town of Bremgarten is typical of Morach's unique graphic world, in which the exaggerated look appears like an avant-garde stage design. The city is surrounded on three sides by water and Morach depicts the wooden bridge and the train bridge which cross the river Reuss, and the old city gates and towers of the city (including the Spittleturm and the Hexenturm).
