OTTOMAR ANTON IN 2 DAYS ACROSS THE ATLANTIC. Circa 1936.
33x231/4 inches. Muhlmeister & Johler, Hamburg.
Condition B+: restored loss in image; repaired tears, restoration and overpainting in margins and image.
The Hindenburg making its way over the Atlantic Ocean, is cleverly juxtaposed with an old clipper ship, below, to emphasize the speed of the new airship. This poster appeared in several different languages, but this is the only known copy with an imprint from American Airlines, announcing connecting service with the great zeppelin! Curiously, the Hindenburg (which by 1937 was being used as a propaganda tool as well as a means of transportation) was known to have two prominently painted swastikas on its tailfins, but here only one is depicted. Airlines p. 37.
