Born in Russian Armenia in 1951, Berberian emigrated to the United States in 1977, following the death of his father. He eventually settled in California where he went to study with the late master painter and noted teacher, Sergei Bongart. Subsequently, he built a home and studio in Idaho, near Bongart, from which he still conducts workshops in the summer.
