First edition, 12mo, illustrated with frontispiece and eleven engraved plates as called for, and an additional copy of the iconic Hawaiian surfing plate; bound in original dark green publisher's cloth stamped in blind, spine gilt lettered and gilt stamped with image of a ship and anchor; even toning, foxing and offsetting throughout as usual; extremities bumped, spine lightly sunned, back joint starting, scattered stains, endpapers foxed, but overall sturdy; ex libris James Bailey Jr., with inked ownership inscription dated 1844 at Croton, NY; 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 in.
