First edition, octavo; with the half-title; no. 31 of 100 copies specially bound in blue leather by Exter Bookbinders, the front board designed to resemble the protagonist Winston Smith's uniform suit jacket, complete with a folded collar opened at the top to reveal a prosthetic eyeball set into tan leather, with three silver skulls as the jacket buttons, stamped in gilt and blind, pictorial endpapers patterned with repeated images of Orwell's eyes, the lower pastedown cut to expose an American dollar and British pound notes beneath, original red topstain preserved (minor staining to foredge); 7 1/4 x 4 3/4 in.
