PABLO PICASSO
Dessin pour une cravate.

Color crayons on cream wove paper. 326x87 mm; 12 7/8x3 1/2 inches. A gift from the artist to the previous owner, circa 1956; private collection, Germany.

Picasso (1881-1973) was prolific in his artistic output, including forays into costume and scenic design for groups such as the Ballet Russes in addition to his paintings, drawings, prints and ceramics. Picasso's connection to design and textiles is reflected in scarves printed after his work, including Festival pour la Paix, published in 1951 to benefit the Festival Mondial de la Jeunesse et des Etudiants pour la Paix, Berlin (see Swann Auction Galleries, March 7, 2013, sale 2306, lot 405). The current work reflects the breadth of Picasso's artistic interests, incorporating fashion and design into a whimsical drawing of a floral decorated necktie.

This drawing has been authenticated by Claude Picasso, the artist's son, with a certificate from him dated March 20, 2013.
