PABLO PICASSO
Diaulos Player.

Glazed terre de faïence oval plate painted in blue, green, yellow, white, brown and black, 1947. 220x390 mm; 8 3/4x15 1/2 inches (oval). Numbered 175/200 in black, on the base. With the Madoura Plein Feu and Edition Picasso stamps, on the base.

While visiting his friend and master printmaker, Louis Fort, at Golfe-Juan, in the south of France during the summer of 1946, Picasso attended the annual ceramics exhibition at nearby Vallauris. There he met Suzanne and Georges Ramié, who ran the Madoura pottery workshop, and soon after began producing his pottery creations with them. Their partnership spanned 4 decades, during which time Picasso made more than 630 separately editioned ceramics. This is his first editioned ceramic from Madoura. Ramié 1.
