This linoleum cut image harkens back to Picasso's early 1930s paintings of his then-mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter, shown in sensual slumber. Marie-Thérèse had been, since the late 1920s, as his marriage to the ballet dancer Olga Koklova deteriorated,Picasso's lover and artistic muse. Bloch 1083; Baer 1319.
