PABLO PICASSO
Figure—Baigneuse à la Cabine.

Lithograph, 1929. 235x140 mm; 9¼x5½ inches, wide margins. Artist's proof, aside from the edition of 300. Signed in pencil, lower right. Printed by Duchâtel, Paris. Published by Auguste Blaizot & Fils., Paris. From Le Manuscrit autographe. A very good impression.

According to Baer, additional impressions of this lithograph, aside from the edition of 300 included in Le Manuscrit autographe, and printed on cream wove paper with the Lafuma Papeteries watermark, as with the current work, were signed by Picasso (1881-1973) for the gallerist and collector Heinz Berggruen (1914-2007). Born in Germany, Berggruen fled Nazi Germany in 1936 and settled in San Francisco, before returning to Europe to establish his eponymous gallery in Paris after World War II. In 1980, Berggruen retired from his gallery business and concentrated on expanding his own collection. Picasso was among Berggruen's primary artists, and his renowned collection of more than 120 paintings and drawings by Picasso was donated to the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin following his death. Bloch 96; Geiser XXVI; Reuße 30.
