PABLO PICASSO
Le Colombe.

Blue crayon on wove paper, circa 1960. 70x128 mm; 2¾x5 inches. Signed and dedicated in blue crayon, recto.

Provenance: Private collection, New York; thence by descent to current owner.

The dedicatee of this drawing from Picasso (1881-1973) may be related to a member of the World Congress of the Peace Partisans, for whom Picasso designed numerous posters using the dove motif during the 1950s and 1960s. The dove, one of Picasso's favored subjects and a symbol for peace, became an emblem for the International Peace Conference. Picasso created a number of increasingly abstracted dove compositions from the late 1940s through the 1960s, many of which were used for the conference's posters.
