PABLO PICASSO
Magicienne captant et renvoyant sur son plafond les rayons du soleil.

Etching on cream laid Montval paper, 1934. 275x197 mm; 10 3/4x7 3/4, full margins. One of only a few impressions on this paper (with either a Picasso or Vollard watermark) before steel-facing and aside from the unsigned edition of 55 from the steel-faced plate. Signed, dated "Paris le 27 Avril 1942" and dedicated "pour Frélaut" in pencil, lower right. Picasso watermark. A superb impression of this extremely scarce etching.

The dedicatee, Jacques Frélaut, from the Lacouriére and Frélaut printmaking workshop in Paris, was Picasso's primary intaglio printmaker from the 1950s through the 1970s and received numerous signed and dedicated proofs from Picasso throughout the years.

We have found only 2 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Bloch 275; Geiser 415 B a.
