Bronze with greenish brown patina, 1909. 410 mm; 16 1/4 inches (height, including base). Signed "Picasso" on the back of the neck.
A later casting of one of Picasso's (1881-1973) most important bronzes and an icon of Cubist sculpture. Picasso made the original clay model in the autumn of 1909 and the Parisian publisher Ambroise Vollard commissioned an edition of 9 early casts shortly thereafter. The current casting dates from after the small Vollard edition. Zervos 573 (another cast illustrated); Spies/Piot 24 (another cast illustrated).
