PABLO PICASSO
Tête de femme.

Engraving and roulette on cream wove paper, 1916. 78x50 mm; 3 1/8x2 inches, full margins. Artist's proof, before beveling of the plate and aside from the edition of 25 published in La Défense de Tartufe. Inscribed "biseau blanc" twice and "ne pas nettoyer la gravure" in pencil, verso. A superb impression of this extremely scarce print.
We have found only 2 other impressions at auction in the past 20 years.

A portrait of Picasso's early love and the muse of many of his Cubist works, Marcelle Humbert, whom he called Eva Gouel. Picasso was devasted when she died an early death at the age of 30 in 1915. Bloch 31; Geiser 52.
