PABLO PICASSO
Visage.

Silver pendant, circa 1950. 33 mm; 1 3/8 inches (diameter). With the Madoura Empreinte Originale Picasso stamp, verso.

Picasso created several similar terre de faïence medallions at Madoura around 1950 (see Ramié 92, 631 and 632).

In addition to the prolific outburst of editioned ceramics, which he began to create in the south of France during the middle of his career (he produced more than 600 editioned ceramic works from 1947 to 1971), Picasso made a series of small jewelry pendants, likely beginning around 1950 with several unqiue silver and gold pieces cast in southern France with the assistance of his dentist, Dr. Chatagnier, as gifts for his then mistress, Françoise Gilot.
