The Tennis Society of Pompeya club's history began in 1908 with the construction of the Temple of the Shrine of Pompei. To accompany their church and encourage exercise among youth, cultural and recreational activities were organized and coordinated by a board. The Societat Sportiva Pompeia acquired great fame and popularity within the upper class of Barcelona and tennis became their most prominent sport. The club moved to a new location on Travessera de Gràcia, and planned to expand to 8 courts. The club took on the coveted title of "Royal" in 1920.
