Two teams, in red stripes and blue stripes, are competing in a long, flag-bedecked hall. An impressive, early sport poster for the Basque game of Pelota Vasca - called Jai Alai when it was imported to Cuba - a combination of handball, lacrosse and racquet ball. Jai Alai, Fiesta Alegre, Beti Jai and Euskal Jai were four "Frontons" - two-walled or single-walled courts used as an arena for Basque pelota (court sports). The Beti Jai fronton is the only surviving example from the 19th century. The sport of jai alai was first introduced to America at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
