PALAIS DE GLACE. 1895.
47x34 1/8 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B: restored losses and overpainting in top left corner and along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired tears in left and right margins; minor creases in image.
Between 1895 and 1900, Cheret designed a gallery of skating girls, sometimes depicted alone and sometimes with a companion, for the Palais de Glace<>, an ice-skating rink located on the <>Champs-Elysées<>. All are gracious and charming pieces. Here, a blonde in an elaborate red and orange outfit is gently gliding across the ice, her body creating a diagonal across the poster. Her escort, as in all posters of this series, is depicted in far less clarity and color. Broido 368, Maitres pl. 17, DFP II, 256.
