Additional Details

first edition in the very scarce dust jacket, superb association copy warmly inscribed, with an original penguin drawing: "June 3 1959 / To my good friend and / collaborator, John D. Ball Jr. / I might say my fine un- / feathered friend. / Best always / Stuart Palmer / [drawing]." John Ball is best known for his 1965 debut novel In the Heat of the Night, featuring protagonist Virgil Tibbs, memorably portrayed onscreen by Sidney Poitier in the 1967 film adaptation that won the Best Picture Oscar. Rare Book Hub lists only two other copies in the jacket at auction, with no copies signed.
