PATRICK COKAYNE KEELY ( ? - 1970) WIRELESS WAR. 1943.
29x36 inches. Haycock Press, London.
Condition A-: minor tears and creases in margins. Paper.
When Sir John Tallents became responsible for the image of the General Post Office he called on many great artists from Kauffer to younger designers like Tom Eckersley, Lombers, Jack Vickery and Pat Keely. Throughout the war he continued this great artistic push. This poster, acknowledging the role of Post Office engineers in the field of radio technology is a fantastic fresco, filled with airplanes, tanks and battleships all connected via, colofrful, concentric radio waves. At the hub of all the transmissions, an engineer is sitting in a turret-like bubble monitoring controlling all the broadcasts. A remarkable construction with excellent use of the airbrush to highlight certain elements.
