Deschamps was a great admirer of Eugene Grasset to whom he dedicated his first one-man show and a special issue of La Plume. As Grasset's most visible disciple it was only a matter of time before Deschamps commissioned Berthon to design a poster. The result is one of Berthon's best posters in which he employs unusually vivid colors. Unlike the work of his mentor, Berthon's image is sensuous, generously revealing the woman's neck and shoulders. The woman represents a classic fin-de-siecle duality; the angel amidst the white lilies, and the femme fatale, seductively picking orchids and wearing an armband in the form of a serpent.
