PAUL CADMUS
Study for the "Burning of Richmond."

Pencil and brush and gray wash with white heightening on paper. 180x355 mm; 7x14 inches. Signed in pen and black ink, lower right recto.

Cadmus, along with Jared French, was commissioned to create a mural for a parcel post building in Richmond, Virginia. This current lot is a study for one of his original ideas for the mural, which was ultimately rejected on the grounds that it was too controversial.
