PAUL COLIN (1892-1986) LA NUIT DE PARIS. 1949.
231/4x151/2 inches. Bedos, Paris.
Condition B: repaired tears and loss in margins and corners; wrinkles and tape stains in image. Mounted on archival paper.
For this charity event entitled Parisian Night, Colin developed an exceptionally clever, and amusing, graphic idea. He uses a sophisticated cut-out technique and the white paper to delineate a couple against the black background. A closer look reveals just how truly this image depicts a "Parisian Night," as we realize that the man's eye is the Arc d'Triomphe, his nose the Eiffel Tower, his bow-tie La Madeleine and his opera glasses Notre Dame, while the woman's necklace is Montmartre's Sacre Coeur. This is the smaller format. Colin 152.
