PAUL GEORGE LAWLER (DATES UNKNOWN)

ACROSS THE PACIFIC IN FIVE DAYS VIA PAN AMERICAN. 1938.

41½x27¼ inches, 104½x69¼ cm.
Condition A-: expert overpainting and restoration in margins and around text; minor creases and restoration in image.

A Boeing 314 Clipper flying low over Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor, with Victoria Peak in the background. It is interesting to note that Lawler depicts the aircraft with a single, vertical tail fin, as it was originally built. In early tests, this configuration proved unreliable and the plane was outfitted with a wider back fin with endplates at both ends of the tail. Service from California to Hong Kong was suspended in 1941 due to the outbreak of war.
