PAUL SCHEURICH (1883-1945) BUTTERICKS MODEN-REVUE. 1912.
27 3/4x18 1/2 inches. Hollerbaum & Schmidt, Berlin.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears at edges; minor creases and abrasions in image.
In Berlin, Scheurich worked for the renowned printer Hollerbaum & Schmidt. In the years before the First World War, they were known not only for the quality of their lithography but also the impressive stable of artists they employed, that included Lucian Bernhardt, Hans Rudi Erdt and Julius Klinger. Scheurich's style was much like his counterparts in that it was heavily influenced by the British school, employing flat tones. For the subjects of his posters he generally relied on Berlin's bourgeoisie and working class. This image of a well-dressed woman sitting on a sofa, with her dog, is a gracious, delicate and elegant manner in which to promote this fashion magazine. DFP II 2880.
