Van Roekens (1896-1988) studied in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and lived in and around the city for most her life. She married the artist Arthur Meltzer in 1927. Van Roekens exhbited frequently at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Philadelphia Sketch Club as well as at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
