Pavel Tchelitchew (1898-1957) was a Russian-born painter, set designer and costume designer, who spent much of his artistic career in New York and Paris. He collaborated with the famous set and costume designers Sergei Diaghliev and George Balanchine, illustrated his drawings appeared in various magazines and he produced portraits for many well-known luminaries, including Gertrude Stein.
