"The Engraving in the 5th Vol. of Irving's Life of Washington was made from a monochrome in Crayon, finished from my Original Portrait. Washington gave me three long sittings of his precious time for a study from the Life. I am now finishing the 76th Copy in Oil, in my 82nd Year."
