This portrait was in the collection of Shirah Kober-Zeller, whose father, Arthur Kober, was briefly wed to Lillian Hellman. After the couple divorced and Hellman married Dashell Hammett, Hellman remained a lifelong influence on Shirah, and gifted her this portrait.
