Peress, a Magnum photojournalist, took these photographs in 1979-80. They were originally published as a 10-page pull-out in "The New York Times," during the height of the Iran hostage crisis. Cornell Capa hailed the publication of this Aperture volume, referring to it as "a book of brilliant visual nervousness between the covers."
