Additional Details

The present work on paper was likely created early in Peter De Wint's career. He was admitted as a student at the Royal Academy in 1809, and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Gallery of Associated Artists in Water Colours, the British Institution, and the Society of Painters in Watercolour during these early years. In 1811, he was admitted to the Life School at the Royal Academy, the same year he was also made a member of the Society of Painters in Watercolour. De Wint followed this early career success with his drawings for William Bernard Cooke's Picturesque Delineation of the South Coast of England and Thames Scenery, (1814-1829) which the present lot may be related to.
