Built between 1904 and 1908, the Empress Hotel in Vancouver, B.C., originally marked the terminus of the Canadian Pacific's steamship line. The elegant, Edwardian edifice has played host to royalty and movie stars alike and remains a popular hotel and tourist destination to this day. Ewart studied as a commercial designer in both Montreal and New York City and designed his first poster for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1939. Ewart worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 20 years and created more than 24 different posters for the company.
