A powerful Selkirk locomotive is steaming out of a tunnel. In the distance, the snowy peaks of the Canadian Rockies are highlighted by the sun. In the years after World War II, "the largest steam locomotives to be built for the C.P.R. made impressive subjects for the graphic artists" (Canadian Pacific p. 59). Ewart studied as a commercial designer in both Montreal and New York City and designed his first poster for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1939. Ewart worked for the Railway for 20 years and created more than 24 different posters for the company. Canadian Pacific p. 283, Canadian Pacific / Choko np.
