Peter Flinsch was born in Germany in 1920. In the early years of World War II, he was drafted into Hitler's army. While enlisted he was arrested for kissing a fellow soldier, court martialed, and forced to serve in a minesweeping detail under harsh conditions. There, he contracted malaria. After the war Flinsch was employed painting communist heroes in East Germany. He moved to Paris, finally settling in Canada in 1952. Flinsch worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a Set Designer and Art Director, while pursuing a lifelong art career exploring the male nude. In 2008, Ross Higgins published an overview of the artist's career titled, "Peter Flinsch: The Body in Question."
