Phil Ochs was a song writer and political protester who took a firm stance against the Vietnam War. He organized several prominent protests against the war (optimistically, prematurely claiming "the end of the war"), one of which was scheduled to take place in Cheviot Hills Park in Los Angeles in June, 1967. Although a large crowd showed up, the event was forcibly broken up by the Los Angeles police.
The image also appeared in black and white as a newspaper ad for the event.
