Chappelier was a talented caricaturist with a good sense of humor who designed a handful of excellent posters, primarily for the nascent automobile industry. Here he uses the graphic cliché of a car invading the countryside, where unsuspecting peasants and geese don't know what to do with the strange machine. But Chappelier has taken this theme and added a little more to the story. The car is depicted at night with its headlights illuminating not only a basketful of geese, but also an amorous young couple, who are too involved to notice the midnight invader. While the driver screams at the couple to get out of the way, his female passenger is aghast at the conduct on display in the provinces. Bibliotheque Nationale vol. IV p. 284.
