The current work relates to a painting that was with Arnoldie-Livie, Munich, in the 1980s. Mercier trained in Berlin with Antoine Pesne. In 1716 he was invited to London by the Prince of Wales and became painter to the Court in 1727. He was a follower of Watteau, who visited him in London in 1720.
