H.P. Cazneaux was a pioneering photographer, born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was the son of an English-born photographer, Pierce Mott Cazneaux, and was manager and chief operator of Freeman & Co. Ltd's studio in Sydney at the turn of the century. The Canberra Times (January 29, 1994) recognized Cazneaux as Australia's leading pictorial photographer, and in 1937, he became the first Australian to be conferred with Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society.
