PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR (AFTER)
La Loge.

Color aquatint and etching, 1928. 268x214 mm; 10 1/2x8 3/8 inches, full margins. Signed by Jacques Villon, numbered 130/200 and inscribed "controllée par Pierre Renoir" in pencil, lower margin. Etched by Villon, Paris. Published by Galerie Bernheim-Jeune, Paris. A very good impression.

La Loge is based on Renoir's (1841-1919) same-titled oil on canvas, 1874, included in the Impressionists' first group exhibition, and now in the Courtauld Gallery, London. The painting depicts a young couple at a Paris theatre. The woman was modelled by Nini Lopez, Renoir's then new model who would feature in fourteen of his paintings over the next few years. The man was his brother Edmond, a journalist and art critic. Ginestet/Pouillon 661 (Villon).
