PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR
Femme nue couché (tournée à droite), 1re planche.

Drypoint on heavy cream wove paper, 1906. 127x200 mm; 5 1/8x8 inches, full margins. With the artist's ink stamp signature, lower right. A superb, dark impression with warm plate tone.

Though Renoir's (1841-1919) focus was more painting than printmaking, he almost certainly knew Whistler's etchings through various exhibitions in Paris during the 1870s/1880s. The two artists might have also crossed paths with mutual friends in and around the circle of Impressionist artists (Whistler trained with the Parisian artist Charles Gleyre soon upon his arrival in Paris in 1856, while Renoir entered Gleyre's studio in 1862). Delteil 13.
