Black chalk on cream wove paper, circa 1867. 181x264 mm; 7 x 13 1/8 inches. With a study of a horse-drawn figure holding reigns in black chalk, verso. Louise d'Argencourt has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this drawing.

This is a study for Puvis's Sleep, oil, 1867, now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille. There is a reduced version of the same painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
