PIETER BRUEGEL (after)
The Witch of Mallegem.

Engraving, 1559. 350x475 mm; 13 3/4x18 3/4 inches. Second state (of 4), with the signatures and the address of Cock, but before all the additional text in the lower margin. Engraved by Pieter van der Heyden. Indiscernible (Gothic letter ?) watermark. Thread margins 3 sides, trimmed on or just inside the plate mark lower edge, with the majority of the blank lower margin preserved. A brilliant, early impression of this extremely scarce, large print, with strong contrasts and no signs of wear.

We have found only one other impression at auction in the past 20 years. Hollstein 93; Bastelaer 193; Lebeer 28.
