Additional Details

first english edition of Poe's occult whaling novel. The book caught on more with the English reading public than with the American and it quickly underwent a number of editions and issues. There is some debate as to the quality of Poe's early effort - that aside, it is abundantly clear that Poe steeped himself in contemporary whaling narratives when preparing to write the book.
