Additional Details

". . . I am satisfied with the explanation given of the transaction about which I wrote to you. I approve of the removal of the Clerk in the Naval office. The cause stated by you, was amply sufficient to justify it. In all cases of like--partizan . . . opposition to the administration--removals should be made. I have great confidence in Mr. Somerset[?], and have no doubt he will discreetly and properly exercise his authority, in such cases as may require it. I suggest to you, that you have a conversation with him on the subject, before you leave New York."
