EARLY SCULPTURE BY JOHNS AND RAUSCHENBERG POP ART
Matson Jones Custom Display.

Pomegranate * Open Pomegranate * Pomegranate Slice * Melon Half * Melon Slice. Each hand painted plaster, circa 1955. Various sizes. Each in good condition.

As young men pursuing art careers in New York in the 1950's Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg took jobs working for Gene Moore, the head of design at Tiffany, designing window displays. Though these works were made by Johns and Rauschenberg, they did not consider them to be part of their artistic oeuvre. The artists called themselves Matson Jones Custom Display so that this work would not be confused with their art. With the certificate of authenticity from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
