first edition of the first of Pope's verse Epistles, addressed to his patron, the architect Richard Boyle, third Earl of Burlington, a leading proponent of Palladian style in England. The poem satirizes the vulgarity and ostentatious expense of contemporary estates built for the wealthy, praising Burlington's designs in contrast. This copy is Todd's A edition, second state.
