According to a note in Volume 1, the set was bound up in 1844, and the cost of the portraits at an average of 4d each, together with mounting and binding, came to £19 19s 4d. The subjects are predominantly English, and the contents of the volumes are organized as follows: I--Royal Families, Peers; II--Peers, Gentry; III--Ecclesiastics; IV--Lawyers, Men of the Sword, Literates; V--Literates, Artists; VI--Ladies, Singular Characters.
